Fr. Martin Taylor (1927-1988)

Father Martin Taylor passed away June 5, 1988.

Father Martin, in keeping with the monastic vow of stability, spent his entire ministry as a teacher of Latin and Spanish at Maur Hill School from 1953 until his death after a three-year battle with leukemia. Father Martin was the “founding father” of the Maur Hill English as a Foreign Language Program. He traveled widely, mainly to Mexico, during the summers to recruit students and maintain contacts.

Father Martin was loved and accepted by both the students he taught and the faculty with whom he taught. His father, John Taylor was an internal oblate of the Abbey. The monk faculty each year was treated to a fifth of “Old Taylor” by Brother John to celebrate Father Martin’s birthday, March 22, 1927.
