Talentum Account
When you would like to earmark a gift for one of our budgeted annual expense categories, those funds are placed into the Abbey’s Talentum Account, which derives its name from another scriptural passage, the Parable of the Five Talents.
By designating a gift for one of our budgeted expenses, you can help ensure that the specific ministry activities, special projects, and strategic goals of the Abbey are met before the monastery must tap into our general use funds. The Talentum Account is further divided into seven named funds grouped by category.
Jesus said, “For it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted to them his property. To one he gave five talents [in Latin, talentum (sing.)], to another two, to another one, to each according to his ability. Then he went away. He who had received the five talents went at once and traded with them, and he made five talents more. [...] Now after a long time the master of those servants came and settled accounts with them. And he who had received the five talents came forward, bringing five talents more, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me five talents; here, I have made five talents more.’ His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’
Matthew 25: 14-16, 19-21
Talentum Account Funds
-
monastic life fund
The monks’ living expenses, the costs associated with their call to work and prayer, and the activities of the cloister or daily assignments, are deposited into the Monastic Life Fund. The goal for FY 2025 is $380,000.
-
abbey restoration fund
The capital needs for maintaining, modernizing, and enhancing the Abbey church, cloister, guesthouse, and campus constitute an investment in the future generations of monks who will live and repose here. The monks of today are stewards of a patrimony that they have received and wish to ameliorate for decades and even centuries to come. Gifts to support that end are deposited in the Abbey Restoration Fund. The goal for sustaining our efforts in FY 2025 is $371,000.
-
faithful servant fund
Our healthcare services, retirement planning, and security projects provide for the future health and safety of monks of every age. St. Benedict’s Abbey is also blessed to have an infirmary where our eldest brothers can live out their vocation with their monastic family to the end. Gifts earmarked for these needs are deposited into the Faithful Servant Fund. The goal for FY 2025 is $220,000.
-
good samaritan fund
The Abbey serves many apostolates, and monks partner with Catholic-affiliated ministries in numerous ways. Education, family support, chaplaincies, parochial service, and more, are just a few of the many ways in which the Kansas Monks work in the world without being of the world. The goal of the Good Samaritan Fund for FY 2025 is $215,000.
-
good news fund
In today’s world, the Church’s evangelizing mission has expanded into new frontiers of digital outreach, audio-visual production, and producing traditional media with new technologies. The Kansas Monks have embraced communications strategies that allow them to practice the vow of stability from their small-town Abbey while bringing the message of Christ to the world. Contributions to advance this work are deposited into the Good News Fund. The goal for FY 2025 is $112,000.
-
good shepherd fund
Even before a man enters the monastery, the Abbey invests in helping him discern the call to a religious life. Once fully professed, all monks continue to be formed as spiritual leaders and, for some monks, as priests. The costs of our vocations program, studies for the priesthood, and lifelong formation and discernment, are designated for the Good Shepherd Fund. The goal for FY 2025 is $92,000.
-
great commission fund
When a donor would like to designate a gift for a specific expense not categorized into one of the funds above, or when the Abbey identifies an out-of-the-ordinary need for a special project, those contributions are deposited into the Great Commission Fund. The goal for FY 2025 is $210,000.
