Fr. Roman Otott (1860-1894)
Frater Roman was a relative of Father Odilo Otott. He as Anselm Eugene was born in St. George, Ill., July 12, 1860. His mother’s maiden name was La Noue, as is Father Bertrand’s last name. He finished classical studies at the Sulpician College in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He entered the novitiate at St. Vincent but came then to Kansas where he made his simple profession. After profession he was appointed sacristan and professor of French at the College.
He had finished his philosophy and one year of theology when his health began to decline. For a change of scene he went to his family home in Concordia, Kan., but returned to the Abbey in 1894. His health rallied and then deteriorated so that he made his solemn profession May 13, 1894. He died around 10:30 PM, May 29, 1894.
