Fr. Columban Meaney (1855-1911)
As he left the chapel at St. Margaret’s Hospital, Kansas City, Kan., Father Columban died of apoplexy on January 8, 1911. He had been in the hospital for two months doctoring for pleurisy. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., and began attendance at St. Benedict’s College in 1880. In 1882 he made vows as a member of the abbey and was ordained December 21, 1886.
Father Columban taught for a while at the college and became later pastor of Sacred Heart Church, Atchison. For the last eleven years he had been pastor of St. Patrick’s, south of Atchison. His mother and one brother moved to St. Pat’s when he became pastor.
